The Originals- 5.11 'Til the Day I Die' Discussion Thread
Klaus turns to Davina for help to learn more about a mysterious affliction affecting Hope. On their wedding day, Freya and Keelin make a tough decision about their future together, while Elijah is forced to confront a past memory of Hayley. Finally, Declan's growing curiosity in the city's supernatural secrets forces Marcel to step in.
Third last episode and we should be getting to the end of the filler or with luck, past it. It'll be great to see Davina again- wish they'd killed Josh off earlier to have her in extra episodes, truthfully.

Why are we getting so much of Declan this late in the game? Are they really setting him up to follow Hope to Legacies?

Why are we getting so much of Declan this late in the game? Are they really setting him up to follow Hope to Legacies? If that one theory is right (that Klaus fakes his death) I can see that happening. They're really pushing the "Declan was there for Hope" & we know Hope is very protective of him. They introduced him as Hayley's love interest, but he's more Hope's father figure. I'm more pissed they have him as Cami's cousin, but I think they did that as a kind of Easter egg...?

I wish they established more between Declan, Hayley and Hope for all of this to make sense.

Gonna be honest, I'm glad there's only two episodes left, because as it winds down, I'm liking this season less and less.

The main problem with this season is that it doesn't feel like the Originals. Nazi vampires pale in comparison to Dahlia, the ancestors, Lucien, etc... The fact that they were not wiped out the moment Hayley died is bad writing, because you know that Klaus would have done that immediately before. Then he'd bully a witch to help him get Hayley back, because he's too afraid of raising Hope alone.
Hope dying isn't interesting, because by the end of the season she's off to her new show where she'll be a proper tribrid.
I dunno, it's hard to get excited for this season when the characters are not behaving like themselves or they're just push to the side to focus on other characters that we don't care about.

I'm more convinced than ever we really could have done with a five/six episode season because we're finally getting into actual plot progression and the characters we need in every episode, actually a five episode arc with the spinoff series. I know whatever we see next is how Julie wants to wrap up the series and she's done what she can with an extended episode count but there's been too many meaningless threads cluttering the season- honestly tempted to one day choose scenes and just cut down to what I think the final season encapsulates. The end definitely needed to be told and I don't think they could have crammed it into last season, but I do think with a full episode order and a younger Hope, we would have pushed to the same resolution as we're about to see- mid series finale, the family divided and then season/series finale, a wrap up... it feels like what's happening to her was originally intended to be written for a younger Hope (minus the boy and other bits), it's still brutal because of who Hope is but this is the trope 'network television is a waste of potential'.
This season is the extension of the fourth season than a standalone.

I can't believe there are viewers on social media who seem to think that Hope is in real danger. Despite the fact that HER spinoff has been announced...

Gonna be honest, I'm glad there's only two episodes left, because as it winds down, I'm liking this season less and less. Just when I think I'm done being angry and bitter - nope. Look at that, I still have some left in me.
Haylijah makes me want to vomit. Violently. Over and over and over again.
SHE - BROKE - UP - WITH - HIM.
Granted, for a stupid-ass reason, but she broke up with him. She's got no business popping over to France to check in on him.
You dumped him for a stupid-ass reason, then sent that reason off to boarding school. Elijah could have survived the separation from his family without being compelled, if Hayley had stood by him. But god forbid Hayley leave those stupid, meaningless, failure to launch wolves. Now people are pissed at Elijah because "he knew" Andrea and still let her die. I hate that Elijah is the one getting dumped on all the time. I hate what they did to his character. I'm so angry at what he's become and how it's going to end.
And they actually did it. They actually took what should have been Cami's story and gave it to her male cousin that not one single person gives a single F about.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: I will never ever NEVER watch or support another show with Plec & co attached as showrunners or writers.

I dunno, it's hard to get excited for this season when the characters are not behaving like themselves or they're just push to the side to focus on other characters that we don't care about. I stopped watching after S2 - and I still can't let go. I keep up via social media and recaps.
If the Other Side still existed, I have no doubt that Klaus would move mountains in order to get Hayley back for Hope. But there is no Other Side anymore. She's gone & there's no getting her back.
I just want to laugh at the idea of Hope being in any real danger. She's not. They should have held off on announcing Legacies, but since we know she's getting a spinoff, I'm pretty sure she survives. And you're right: she'll be the ultra super special tribrid.
Ugh. I'm sorry. I just think she's another angsty teen who thinks she has all the answers and who has way too much power.
She was supposed to be this family's hope and all she's done is drive them apart. To be fair, through no fault of her own as a baby or child, but now? Sorry, kiddo, but you played a big part in your mom's murder.
Then again, so did Klaus. If Klaus didn't have his head so far up his own angst-ridden ***, if he had continued to keep in touch with his daughter - this might have still happened, but at least Klaus and Hope's conscience would be clean.
And again: Hope is the one I'm supposed to be rooting for; like I was supposed to be rooting for Hayley. I just can't be bothered. I tried. She's just not likable.
So, it seems inevitable that Elijah will die and join Hayley (do not get me started on the fact that they're writing that Hayley is Elijah's destiny). And I guess they'll find peace together. Seems odd that they would though, knowing that Hope won't have either of her parents. Elijah dying in place of Klaus so Klaus can be a father to his daughter - only to see Klaus fake his own death and run off.
I'm so glad there's only two more episodes left. Then, maybe, I can finally find my own peace.
The only thing I'm curious about is how they'll explain Caroline's absence from Legacies.

Elijah outright says in this past episode that while he did recognize "Andrea" as a girl he met in France, he believed she was linked to a family he had basically declared war on. In his mind, at that point, he thought she was a spy of some kind, thus he did nothing to aid her. I'm not pissed he let her die, I understand why. I can't tell if all the Haylijah that's being crammed down my throat is an effort to put the ship to bed, or if they are leading up to an ever-after for them. I don't think my toilet will survive all the vomiting if that happens. Agree re: Elijah's character, the hits started coming in TVD season 4 when he let Elena and Matt skate on killing his brothers. Family, my ass. I just don't get the purpose of bringing Declan in as Cami's cousin/heir to the leader of the human faction. Why him? There are many other humans in higher positions than him. Is the O'Connell name so effing special that he's the only one that can do it?
