www.spoilertv.com/2018/03/the-originals-season-5-newsreel-updated.htmlLooking more and more likely she's getting killed off. You'd think I'd be happy, but all I can think is, "too little, too late." And no - she's not getting shafted to make room for Caroline. In a 13-episode season, Caroline's in 4 (plus a phone call scene). Her scenes are miniscule compared to the time Hayley normally gets. No, they shafted their lead female protagonist in order to make room for Hope - their new main female protagonist. They need that screen time so Hope can shine. So the audience can get to know her - and root for her. So they can prove to the CW that she can lead her own spinoff (she can't, IMO, based on what little I've seen). No, we don't need more scenes of Hope and Hayley bonding - the audience knows they have a bond. The audience knows Hayley would do anything for Hope. The audience saw their bond in S4 and again in 5x01. Per CW standards, that's enough. And they're killing off Hayley to provide Hope with some traumatic angst and Mikaelson guilt. Hayley has no more story to tell - except as a love interest. IMO, the last four seasons were more about Hayley than the Mikaelsons - and I hated it. Every stinking moment. Shafting her in the final season, to finally focus on the Mikaelsons, even the newest Mikaelson - it's about damn time. But again, too little, too late.

Well, are we now officially taking bets on what episode is her last?
I'd rather deal with Hayley than Hope.

Well, are we now officially taking bets on what episode is her last? I'd rather deal with Hayley than Hope. I heard 5x07 - 5x08, but I'm thinking it's closer towards the end - maybe 5x10 - 5x11. But I also heard we'll see her in flashbacks the rest of the season. Sigh. I am not looking forward to Klaus giving her eulogy. I honestly can't wait for the fan reactions to that. It's going to be brutal.

I love Hayley but between contracts and working around the cast... it'd have nothing to do with the Hope spinoff. Julie Plec has said she did the final season as a conclusion and while they might want the spinoff to work, there won't be things left unfinished purposefully- last season they did a decent job of that with more loose threads. Also the spinoff having a higher chance has only come in the last month post Chilling Adventures of Sabrina getting scored by Netflix combined with The Originals hitting the right ratings. I think in tone, Julie doesn't expect the spinoff to get a pickup between the lines, she's preparing and she'd enjoy it but everything being done is for the final season. It has nothing to do with Hope or a certain blonde TVD former main.
There hasn't been a focus on Hayley over the Mikaelsons- any side attention has been Rebekah or Kol when their actors haven't been available- and she had a stronger reason to be present than Caroline- who I still find painful to this day survived the entire series when she had no point except for love interest wallpaper post mid third season. Hayley's been great and if you find my old posts from the TVD boards somewhere archived, I hated her character when she was introduced. The only time she ever frustrated me was when Jackson's presence induced bad choices because like Klaus, powers of self-sabotage are exceptionally good. Klaus always had more prominence as did Elijah, Rebekah when present, Kol, Freya, Marcel- she just wasn't window dressing which went for Davina, Vincent/Finn and Cami as well. The Originals has decent cast balance which is surprising with the uneven nature of TVD's. It's when you're not a fan of a character- they seem to be in your face at every turn- I'd cite Caroline but a better character I found grating was Luke from Gilmore Girls... there were moments I could stand him but mostly his parts detracted from time better spent on the rest of the supporting cast and more so, the Gilmores themselves. I love, love that show but the fact morality always swung around so he was right and how damaging his relationship with Lorelai was for her...but it was the show's main pairing and he got put in centre focus constantly in some parts over Lorelai. I know on a whole, it wasn't as bad as I perceive it but because I find Luke frustrating- it feels like he's being rammed down my throat.
Hayley's come a long way- and she'll have more sympathy from the shippers and so on than Cami did which speaks to how sad that deranged section of the fandom is. I like Hope and am fine with her having a main role... I'm going to cry when/if Hayley dies and stays dead but I'm a lot more okay with it than I would have been killing her off at any point prior because it's about Hope herself and her character journey than 'killed via childbirth' or without everything she ended up with at the end. A child she was giving more than what she had, the pack and her true nature, Declan, who was there for her and liked her than an imaginary version. It'll suck if someone's exploited what Hope did to see her father again and especially for Hope but Hayley would forgive Hope for anything and if it led to the family being reunited- she won't have died for a romance, she'll have died for something she would have given her life for anyway because of how much it meant for her which is a critical distinction between her death now versus her death giving birth to Hope.
Planned final seasons are brutal on main characters. All bets are off and they would have weighed the story ramifications versus every last cent they could put back into the show as well as Phoebe herself and made the decision accordingly, especially with who they need to bring in and what they need to do to bring The Originals full circle.

If she dies isn't that sad though? I get that it may make sense for the story, but I also find it troubling that Hope has to lose one of her parents and that parent is Hayley. I don't want Klaus to die, but I also don't want Hayley to die just so she can provide angst and stuff. I'm fine with her being a guest star, since I think she was filming a show in Australia during this time as well, I just don't like the idea of her dying.

I'm fine with her being a guest star, since I think she was filming a show in Australia during this time as well, I just don't like the idea of her dying. Actually its not that sad since this show has proven to me that it was never ever the writers intention to give Hope benefit of BOTH her parents at the same time and solid family basis. For people who think that she had that with all Mikealsons then I beg to differ. Look at how insecure and immature she had turned out to be. She is not a stable person. Family members are really important for a child but the empty space left behind because of a parent does leave an impact esp if that parent apparently loves the child and vice versa. Klaus abandoned his beloved daughter all her life. Now he has to face the consequences of his actions. He will learn that Hope has not turned out any better than if he had been continous presence and influence in her life. As for Hayley I am pretty sure that happened because it was PT's choice to be guest appearance this year. I heard some strange and sad rumors and what is obvious from her twitter and stuff is proving to ME that those rumors are not really off. There is no other way to give a lead character less screen time other than killing her/him. Also I kind of think that it will promote EH love story as in she died loving Elijah. I mean in her heart he still was her true love. I have already mentioned that I think Elijah might die in the end so that way EH can get their HEA in the afterlife. I dont believe that Hayley's death was fan-service for Caroline. Caroline is still not lead character of TO not to mention what is the link? Klaus has not and never will be interested in Hayley romantically. Without Hayley being there right now Freya seems more like a lead female character. Yes technically Rebekah is more important but still Freya has more story line than Rebekah whose storyline is just unrequited romance for as long as I can remember. I am looking forward to Klaus Eulogy for Hayley. I read rumors that it is supposed to be very touching. Also I want to see why and how Elijah stopped KLaus from getting Hayley killed or bringing her back.. I am convinced that time for Hayley's death is perfect now plot wise because 1) IT will be a good lesson to Hope too hopefully considering she set the dominios in motion. She is acting out and using her powers freely without thinking about consequences. Her mom's death will make her stop and think. 2 ) Hayley's death and Caroline's advice will also make Klaus realize that since she is not there anymore he has to be constant presence in Hope's life. A child need a parent. I like to believe that Klaus was pretty confident/okay in being away from Hope coz he knew that Hayley is there for her but now thing will be different.

What strange and sad rumors are you talking about? Some difference of opinion between the cast about the pay scale between male and female lead actor/actresses..... Also some unfriend-ing going on twitter. I am not sure what really happened but something happened IMO; Carina's comment about PT being a guest star was very blunt.

I wonder if her break-up with Paul had anything to do with it? They broke up last year during season 4 airing, right? I think I heard some rumors around her and JOMO and Paul during that time too. I am unable to recall what. But why do you think that has to do something with her falling out with her colleagues? I dont know who actually unfriended whom since I dont actually follow them. just heard the rumors that they (PT, JOMO, Daniel) are not twitter friends anymore. They used to follow each other before I distinctly remember because I saw snapshots of their interactions embedded in the tweets forwarded by my friends. Those type of tweets stopped somewhere around season 4 airing of TO. Again these are all rumors. Could be baseless rumors. I do believe that her character's death was because of PT's decision to not be regular of the show this season for whatever reason AND not solely for plot advancement.

Well, I know they all stopped promoting the show after S3. I think JoMo tweeted specifically about the show a couple of times, during this time, but nothing major. But that was after the CW shafted them with a shorter season. I'm sure they're upset at how everything played out. And pissed that the CW didn't even bother to do any type of proper promotion after S2. But they all seemed pretty tight friends. Every group interview, every little BTS video - they seemed very friendly.
IIRC, DG and Paul are great friends. I'm not sure about JoMo and Paul. And I never heard anything about JoMo - Phoebe - Paul. JoMo seems very devoted to his wife, so I don't think there's anything there. But if PT and Paul broke up and they needed to choose sides - they may have chosen Paul's side for whatever reason.
I still honestly, truly believe it has nothing to do with BTS drama. Her downgraded status is simply because they want to focus on Hope. Something had to give. They weren't going to cut DG or JoMo's screen time. They can't cut Marcel, Freya, Vincent's time down. Keelin, Josh, Declan, Antoinette, Caroline, etc. - they don't take up too much time and they're supporting players.
I guess we'll never really know.

I didnt mean any thing romantic rumor when I mentioned rumors about JOMO and Paul. It was definitely not romantic. JOMO does seem devoted to his wife. Your theory about taking sides could be right. Maybe you are right about why they cut her role OR maybe not. With her being kidnapped she still could have some screen time even if they show her being tortured or sleeping or in comma just like they did with DG in season 1. Totally cutting her off is just strange esp after being a lead for four long years. I think she is coming back in e4 or e5 and then getting killed in e6. Caroline is getting more screen time than her from what I am hearing. Dont get me wrong, I am not saying that they shafted PT's role to make appearance for Caroline. I just gave her example to make a point. Anyway like you said we will never really know what happened.

I highly doubt it. Paul Wesley would have nothing to do with it and I think having lost Nina Dobrev because she no longer wanted to work with Ian Somerhalder and losing who was supposed to grow into another female lead, Meredith Fell because her actress split with Paul- neither actor has any pull in a show they aren't in- especially with what happened with Torrey DeVitto. Meredith is a major character in the TVD novels, with history with Klaus and they had to scrap the entire character because he got his wife cast in the role. Carina wasn't abrupt about it, just matter-of-fact which is all you can be without spoiling future episodes. I think the speculation is silly, it underestimates the sheer budget cuts the show has suffered, cast contracts and what a final season means. Phoebe, at least, had been released from her contract post Season Four back when she and Paul were still together because otherwise she'd still be credited as a series regular, appearances or not because they would be paying her the episode fee regardless. The only ill vibes that have ever come across with the cast have been the ones with Leah Pipes during the second half of Season Three. That was awkward, abrupt and cut-air-tension-with-knife. I think the only quiet comes from cast and crew frustrated over the CW's handling of the show and that they've had their careers in limbo for two years. Joss Whedon is well known for getting Angel cancelled and whatever kind of jerk he was for the Charisma Carpenter pregnancy firing, what he did was protect his cast by demanding they renew or cancel the show early. www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/australian-drama-is-unparalleled-why-phoebe-tonkin-came-home-for-her-latest-role-20180321-p4z5fs.htmlPeople forget Phoebe is an Australian actress and more importantly, just like Joseph, Daniel and Claire or any of the cast- with ambitions for her acting career. The Originals is a great show but the reality is its in the final stretch and everybody on the cast and crew are looking to the future.

A child need a parent. I like to believe that Klaus was pretty confident/okay in being away from Hope coz he knew that Hayley is there for her but now thing will be different. Despite this, I still find it sad. The show is about Klaus and his relationship with his family and daughter, so I get why there's always more emphasis about that. But I just find it sad that they have to kill the mom in order to prove a point to her daughter and baby's daddy. I know Phoebe was busy with Safe Harbour, so that's fine, but I wish they didn't kill her off only to bring her back (because I think that's going to happen). I don't stay up to date on their twitter/insta, so I don't know about the sad news. I didn't even know that she broke up with Paul, but I don't think they're the reason why she's a guest star. It's not even about Phoebe, it's just the fact that she's always been there for Hope and the one who did most of the work and she has to die or go missing before Hope's dad comes back into the picture. That just doesn't sit right with me. I know it may make sense for the story, but the way the show treats women characters and now the mom of the character who is meant to have a spinoff just seems so wrong. I don't know if I'm describing it all that well, but death shouldn't be the answer if you don't know what to do with them. Plus, if she dies and Josh lives then does that make sense? He was meant to die in season one but the show's creators purposely go out of their way to write something for him. If they can do that for him to make his existence important to the show, then can't they do the same for Hayley? The only ill vibes that have ever come across with the cast have been the ones with Leah Pipes during the second half of Season Three. That was awkward, abrupt and cut-air-tension-with-knife. I didn't hear about this. What happened?
