So, Roman, Hope's beau. (small spoilers ahead)
We know from interviews that Roman and Hope bond over their dysfunctional families. We know that Caroline talks to Klaus about her feelings for him all those years ago.
I think that Roman's family is a family of witches looking for revenge on the Mikaelsons and Roman either was purposely or accidentally turned. Then he was sent to the Salvatore School to get close to Hope.
OR
Roman was turned and found by a "family" of vampires who are seeking revenge on the Mikaelsons.
I think Roman and Hope are meant to parallel Klaus and Caroline (from when they first met). The mysterious, dark, brooding guy. The innocent girl. The guy who wants to harm her/her family/her friends. The girl who is drawn to him despite knowing what he's done.
I think Roman will end up siding with Hope. But I also haven't heard if the actor is attached to the spinoff, so...
Klaus figures out who Roman is or what he's done and wants Hope to stay away from him. Hope refuses. Caroline intervenes and tells Klaus about her own conflicted feelings for the "bad boy" all those years ago.
Edit: also, the way he keeps using her name, "Marshall -" like he knows that's not her real name and knows that by continually calling her that, she'll snap and confess her real name. Which she did.
