The Originals-5.01 'Where You Left Your Heart' Discussion Thread
THE BEGINNING OF THE END — Desperate to see her father Klaus after seven years, Hope resorts to drastic measures to bring her father back to New Orleans. Hayley attempts to minimize the fallout from Hope's actions, but not before news of what she's done ripples through the city. Meanwhile, Freya's guilt over not being able to reunite her family gets in the way of her happiness with Keelin, while Rebekah struggles with her inability to fully commit to Marcel. Finally, struggling without Elijah by his side, Klaus' murderous rampage throughout Europe leads to an unexpected encounter with Caroline Forbes.
We're finally almost here and I hope, no pun intended, I can post the official episode promo and finally watch this episode. I love the sound of what's happening with Rebekah because despite many romances, it puts it in her court and where her family lies in her heart desires... Freya, I just feel for. Klaus's upcoming encounter with Caroline sounds like it'll actually make sense, Caroline helps run the school teaching his daughter and with whatever Hope does- with all the time jumps we'll probably be spared the Caroline Forbes of her tenure with him during TVD Seasons three and four.

I dont get it why cant Rebekah commit to Marcel? She always WANTED to have family and kids so why cant she do it?

I wonder what Hope does. Doesn't she know her family has to stay clear?
I think Bex may be hesitating because Marcel loves power and control more than her. He's proved it over and over. As per the preview, he's trying to lead the NOLA vamps from New York. Bex wants someone who wants her, chooses her first.
Am dreading the inevitable Klaroline, but I hope Freya can manage to balance her family with her own desires.

From what I've read, it seems to be her pining after her family but we'll have to watch and see. I'm really steamed at the lack of episode promo a day out from the new episode- the CW are being childish over needing to use The Originals to fill in for Life Sentence and it's why I hold a low expectation the Hope series will get a pickup. It could even be leftover bitterness they couldn't justify cancelling it last season.

Rebekah can't commit to Marcel while she knows how unhappy her family is. And also probably a little of Marcel choosing power - again. But I think (hope?) it's more than that. That Klaus was right; that Marcel isn't the one for her. And she's just so desperate to find and have and hold onto love. But now she has it, and .... it's not what she wants.
I'm also 98.7% positive the spinoff won't get picked up.

I have to admit - keeping up with the show as it aired via Twitter and then reading the recap - I kinda want to watch. But I won't.
They're rehashing an old storyline. Again. And it also doesn't make sense to me, because it should be a moot point...

I have to also admit: my shipper heart is ecstatic, but my writer brain is cringing with some of the plot points.

I loved the episode- and finally as I hoped, Rebekah shows that as much as she wanted and craved love, ultimately, family won out and Marcel is only one part of that. It's great evolution for Rebekah's character and Hope as a teenager was better than I thought. Hope's had great casting as a child and now as a teenager- and it can so easily go wrong. Caroline was okay but either there wasn't much material there for her to shine or Candice Accola's limitations are showing, being unable to really cling to a romantic vibe and having to present this adult, mature character... Kol's scene with Hope was amazing, they are adorable. Hayley does go to show with the seven year time jump an actual passage of time and I think I'll be heartbroken were she killed- she's come a long way from that character on The Vampire Diaries which I think describes most 'in concept'... the spinoff saved the Mikaelsons being romance props and wasted potential. I wouldn't want that to be on Hope's shoulders, the responsibility of her mother's death and I want her to have the chance of more than what Klaus and Hayley had. I loved that Hayley was essentially biting her tongue and you could see she just wanted to go on a long talk about how much this was hurting Klaus and being pinned between not making Hope feel terrible and knowing the heartache Klaus was feeling made it more complex than not calling and that he deserved better than his daughter's still justified resentment.
Every scene with Elijah was hard, both Klaus and Rebekah with the shell their brother was- it was tearjerking. Vincent was okay- Josh was pretty useless all episode and Freya wanting to fight for her relationship was sweet and I want to see Keelin come home to New Orleans and show that it's not always them sacrificing the people they love for their family.
So tired, long day and finally finished watching but now I only get twelve more episodes. If anyone saw any promo for the first episode tell me but I'm disgusted at the CW's trick here. It was spiteful and shallow, oh and apparently preliminary ratings show it rising to 0.4 in the 18-49 demo, half hours match so it shouldn't adjust down and matching Riverdale almost completely except for an .08 difference in total viewers. I hope (pun intended) this gets under Pedowitz's skin. It's not much of a compliment to be smarter than Dawn Ostroff but keeping a fad anchor firmly attached to the CW.
Promo for next week; "One Wrong Turn On Bourbon" -

Finally seen it. It was good.
Loved the way all factions were trying to keep balance. I really really love Vincent. Josh had to weakest link, no surprise there.
the actor playing Hope is doing a good job. How old is she supposed to be now? Her turning that werewolf into hybrid was interesting. It is interesting that the person she changed has issues as human. I wonder how much those issues will heightened now that he is turned. Apparently a lot since got so angry by just a nudge. Henry could be a problem this season. No surprise about sire bond but how it was executed was funny. She told him to "feel relax" and he instantly felt that way. I feel bad for her; a teenager who wants to meet her father so badly that she is willing to risk anything. Does she know the extent of what the family did for her? Does she know what meeting with him will do? But then again if a grown ape does not accept the consequences how can you expect a teenager to?
I love how Hayley is balancing stuff. She is such a good mom and apparently a good alpha too. Even though she still seems to have feelings for Elijah it seems Hayley has moved on with Declan or at least trying to; Baby steps. She seems happy with Declan. Seeing they are on the verge of breaking up, I see them going for Haylijah again which means there is a strong possibility that Elijah will die at the end of series too.
I am glad that finally Marcel gave Rebekah an ultimatum. IIRC she gave him one back in season 1. He chose NOLA, she chose her family. Or maybe not. She did choose that YES after the ultimatum but then that call came. I felt bad for Marcel. GOOD for him to choose NOLA after this last bs she pulled. They both deserve each other unlike Kol and Davina. Hope they are never visited again.
Keelin and Freya managed to work. "I am fighting for my life", could it be a foreshadowing of Freya's end?
Klaroline scene was good. It seems she is still fighting for what is between them. She gave him some home truths. I loved the bit about absentee father and Mikeal and her snubbing him when he was implying that she was in France for fun.
What saddened me was what I expected came true; Klaus as a absentee father has really affected Hope. It is canon that she thinks that Klaus is an absentee father and she is not happy with it. Deadbeat dad. Why couldnt he continue to call her after the first two years? Why did he stop? Is it because he is unable to stop himself from going to her?
Klaus dependency on Elijah s kind of endearing and it proves that he will never get a better person.
Elijah seems so happy. The reunion between Klaus/Elijah was nice and touching. Even in this amnesia state Elijah managed to give "I know best" vibe off. I am meh about rebekah/Elijah.
Why was Klaus calling Hayley? I think it was about him and her discussing how can he be more involved in Hope's life since it happened right after Caroline told him that she will see him in the next parents/teacher conference.
Who kidnapped Hayley? DId the vampires kidnap her?
that blood rain was so creepy... Finally TO did something really creepy.
One thing I have come to realize is that unless this family finds a balance they will never be able to find their HEA with their significant others. Call Kol selfish or whatever but at least he knows what he wants and it is not like he has abandoned his family. He at least is in touch with HOPE. I am sure he is with other siblings too.
What I loved was that both KOL and Hayley didnt say anything bad about Klaus to Hope. Hayley even said that he loved her and IIRC Kol too implied that. This is a development I guess. Loved how Hayley was having difficulty telling HOpe why couldnt Klaus with be there for Hope.
EDIT: Never mind why Klaus was calling Hayley. I saw it it yesterday again. It seems Hayley asked Rebekah to get Klaus to call her. So maybe Rebekah contacted Klaus and conveyed the message.

Promo for next week; "One Wrong Turn On Bourbon" - I thought that she was still fighting the attraction between them. It was awkward definitely. it was not meant to be romantic and it didnt feel that way either. I agree about Kol and Hayley. Am not sure about Marcel/Rebekah. Personally I felt angry at Rebekah. She needs to find a balance.

What other species kids are in the school? Was it ever disclosed? I mean Hope, a hybrid and then of course werewolves. Henry was one. What about Roman(?), is he werewolf too?

Rumors/spoilers say Roman is a vampire. I think the school takes all supernatural kids: wolf, vampire, witch, hybirds, and whatever in between. It seems like from the TVD ending that they even identified future/possible vampire hunters (Brotherhood of the Five) and took them in too.

tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/daily-ratings/wednesday-final-ratings-april-18-2018/The Originals held its 0.4/2 in the final ratings with a tiny blip in overall viewers but still 0.4/2 and 0.97M to Riverdale's 0.4/2 and 1.10M is a small deviation in total viewers, great for a 9PM show to have such retention with a last minute timeslot move and it matched in the figure that counts which is the 18-49 demo.

Disappointing, dont you think since the targeted KC fandom is very big and from what I am seeing a lot of them are hooking on this season?
