So, I'm writing a paper for a course (my final course before I get my Communications degree!). The assignment calls for me to assess a character from a show/film and their communication ethics. I chose The Originals and somehow (?!?!?!?), three pages in, I ended up focusing on Klaus and Marcel and a particular scene from 1x20. The deleted scene actually. To recap:
Marcel has been banished but receives permission to attend Father Kieran's funeral/wake. As he's leaving via a rooftop/alley, he runs into Klaus. First of all, I still say this is one of the best scenes in the entire series (that I've seen) and at the time, I was confounded as to why they deleted it. Now that I've reviewed it, I realize: I think it foreshadows what's to come.
At the end of the scene, Marcel states that he will never stop fighting until he is dead. Klaus states he would expect nothing less and that he (Marcel) should know that Klaus will never stop fighting either - until he (Marcel) is dead. But he'll take no pleasure in it.
One or both will end up dead by the end of the season/series. I truly believe that Marcel will die. I wouldn't be surprised if Marcel is somehow linked to Klaus and Klaus willingly dies so Marcel will die too and lessen Klaus' guilt (cause he'll be dead too). I think if Klaus or anyone else kills Marcel, Klaus will grieve, but move on in typical Plec fashion and focus on Hope.

Congrats on almost finishing your degree!
I never saw that deleted scene, but now I want to. Your theory is an interesting one, but I think that already played out in last season. We saw Marcel die and Klaus grieve. We also saw how Marcel will keep on fighting and ended up winning in the end.
At this point, I think Klaus is done with the fighting and being on top. After the death of Cami and his sleep but not really sleep state that Marcel placed him in, I think he's going to change his tune and want to fix things. He always talked about how family is important, but he's going to start to understand just how much they meant to him and how he needs to change.
Marcel may have trouble with this, but I think that's due to his history. Being a slave and having a white father who beat you made him want to take revenge and take everything that his father owned (at least that's how I felt). When Klaus cared for him, he may have changed a bit but stopped once Klaus became overbearing. The Marcel saw himself in a mirror image of his former past. He doesn't want that to happen again.
Even if he tries to kill Klaus, I don't think Hope will allow it once she comes back this season. Maybe Klaus stops her from killing Marcel and then takes her away, leaving Marcel in charge of NO. I think once Marcel gets what he wants, he'll start to miss his family because a king without a family is a lonely man.
The show never goes the way I want it to though, so this is probably just me. But I think both will realize that fighting doesn't solve anything and that family matters more than being kings. Whether they die or not depends on how much power Plec gives Hope.

I think if Klaus or anyone else kills Marcel, Klaus will grieve, but move on in typical Plec fashion and focus on Hope. Klaus will only kill Marcel if he is a danger to Hope. Can that happen? On the other hand Elijah will kill Marcel if he is danger to any member of his family esp Hayley or Hope. So IF Marcel dies ti will be at hands of Elijah but that will not send a good message. Is the life of an adopted kid is less important than the blood relative which is what has been shown in last season? I wonder if kLaus was right "if it were Hope..." would Elijah have taken care of Hope too? I agree with you about that being the best scene. And I know why they cut it out. Coz they had to accommodate an Haylijah or Klamille scene. There are couple of more nice scenes that they cut out because of the ships promotions. But since it was cut there is no cannon so I dont think that was foreshadowing anything. IF that is still to happen, they wouldn't have cut it. That would have made it more believable. Klaus has no basis to kill Marcel. Their relationship has(d) improved a lot until ELijah ruined it. It is Elijah who should suffer Klaus's wrath not Marcel. Elijah created the monster that destroyed the family (cannon). O and Marcel has already died once. Will they repeat that? Cami was dispensable from the get go and NOT the part of family, Marcel is integral part of family not so indispensable. BTW congrats on your degree.
