When the Originals was announced and it introduced us to the idea that Klaus' one night stand resulted in an unexpected pregnancy, I thought we'd get to see more of the parents trying to figure out what to do. They don't like each other and only had sex because the person they wanted was with someone else. But they also come from broken homes where they were not wanted due to their werewolf nature.
I didn't want romance, but I wanted some talking between the two. It almost felt like the show was afraid of having them in scenes together, because of the backlash from Klaroline shippers. (Phoebe did get death threats, so I get it) But the two have more similarities than differences and I wanted to see the two of them work together more. They may not like each other, but they both want the best for Hope and to give her the life that they never had.
Why do you think there was such a distance between the two? And do you think it affected your views on the show?

Okay as much as I love KH, I think what they did with K and H relationship upsides and down is totally in character of Klaus. KLaus is a dick and he would react the way he did throughout the seasons. Look at how he acts with his siblings. The way he acted with Hayley since season 1- 3 goes to show how much he took her forgranted.
On the other hand the way he acted with Carolien and Camille was totally OOC ( from the Klaus we know in TVD introduction of Klaus).
Now having being said that I think they did it to show the actual development between two characters. They started with not liking each other to where they are now. There is no other couple other than DE (season1- 3) which have gone through all these steps. Their development has been beautiful, albeit they will never become romantic now since that relationship is beyond repair for that kind of relationship.
I do think that the thread PT got had something to do with the contrived angst at some of the places but mostly it is in character for Klaus.
I also think that they pushed EH because of those threats. They could have gone without them and shown all these developments.
It does affect my view on the show because I thought this show was about family. Not once in the first three season, the writers acknowledged that Hayley and HOpe are KLaus's family a nuclear family in this big Mikealson family. I mean what kind of show, about a family, show a dick father to his daughter and the mother? He can be nice to others but not to his daughter and mother. He was nice to Camille from start which was totally OOC for Klaus. Why couldnt he show same courtesy to Hayley even if he had no feelings for her? Camille/Klaus writing just threw me off. If they had not done that, I woudl have rolled with his behavior with Hayley and others but then they showed us KC and KC2... It just pissed me off.
They have and had so many similarities, both wolves, both have a child together, both hybrid now, temperamental wise too, t hey are very similar. We saw them working together a bit in season 3 and it was great. THey had/ have more chemistry than EH who can only show any sort of chemistry or feelings for each other if they are in bed or giving each other moon eyes. Have we seen them share anything other than that? Hayley si even not herself when she is with Elijah. She does not use her mind. Look how she reacted with Marcel. Even when Klaus was asking her "if it were HOpe..." and she dismissed him. She practically begged Klaus to forgive Elijah by manipulating him, another trait similar to Klaus. I honestly get why she was trying to get forgiveness for Elijah but come on Marcel was her friend too. Show some compassion for the Klaus who raised him, for the man who saved her but no...
Basically JP/ MN used Klaus to give Elijah a happy ending. They started with Eh but I dont think they were supposed to go that far. MN loves EH so when JP left, he took over. That is what I think. I was pretty sure that they will go for KH in the end because with EH they still have complications. Who will get HOpe? Will they share? Because Hayley and Elijah cannot live with Klaus all their lives, can they?
Klaus writing has been closest to the original character writing. Other have drifted so far away that I cannot even see their old self in them.

Look at how he acts with his siblings. The way he acted with Hayley since season 1- 3 goes to show how much he took her forgranted. I get that, but I think their lack of interaction wasn't so much about the character's personalities and more about the Klaroline fandom not turning away from the show. I can understand that they were awkward with each other and didn't know what to say, but I feel like there should have been more scenes with the two of them. There were some deleted scenes that helped, but the show made sure to keep them apart. I do agree that this is probably why the show pushed Haylijah, but at the same time I think that relationship (in theory) works even though it's still kind of icky of Elijah to go after his brother's baby's mamma. Hayley wanted a proper family with for her child and she saw that with Elijah. He's stable, trustworthy, and gives off an air of protectiveness. (Even though he can be just as vicious, if not even more so than Klaus). With Elijah, he saw Hayley and Hope as a means for his brother to grow into a better person. A redemption of sorts. Plus, after thousands of years of not having anyone new in the family I think he found hope with the twosome. So I can understand Elijah finding himself drawn to the person who can help change Klaus and I can understand Hayley finding comfort in someone who can provide her with stability and love....but the show and their love of googly eyes makes me not care about them. I can even understand Klaus' fascination with Cami, but his lack of interaction with Hayley and her lack of interaction with him was depressing. Why couldn't we see the two of them talk about their past and how they'll do better. The show did fix things a bit and we saw more of them in Season 2 and 3, but Season 1 was kind of brutal with that.

I totally get why she was attracted to Elijah and for the same reasons you said. And why Klaus was attracted to Camille. But I remember Cami taunting him throughout season 1. She even tried to get him killed by helping Marcel but Klaus was ALWAYS nice to her. That is what irritates me. Why didnt they show consistency in his treatment to both women. His attitude towards Cami from the start made his attitude towards Hayley which actually was in character very bad. I think if Klaus had treated Cami the same way he had treated Hayley from the start, things would have been more understanding and acceptable in terms of his attitude towards Hayley.
Elijah also didnt help. In fact he helped in destroying that relationship from the start when he took Hayley's side and blamed KLaus for using HOpe to make hybrids. Even if he didnt know what Klaus was planning he should have given him benefit of doubt but no he just took Hayley's side. I get why he wouldnt trust his brother because of the history between them but being patriarch of the family he should have tried to reconcile them instead of causing more rift. He never tried to do that which again i get it; he had his own interest in Hayley. Why would he want his brother to be friends with the woman he was falling in love with?
In short, I think they went to extreme to make KLaus look bad in Hayley's/ audience eyes by showing his different attitude towards another woman. I think Klaus was totally OOC with Cami. Even with Caroline, he had his bad moments. He bit her, He stabbed her but with Camille even though she bad mouthed him many times he was always nice to her.
Do you think that Klaus couldnt be protective towards Hayley when he was towards Cami? Why did they deleted that scene when Elijah told Hayley that Klaus cares and he is taking care of the witches? It was all contrived. They went extra miles to make Klaus bad in Hayley's eyes.

But if you try to have a baby and then run from him, then to hell with you lol. I think with Cami he was just lonely. I don't know if he was OoC, but it seemed like he enjoyed having someone who didn't know about his past and would only say good things to him. The fact that she was training to be a psychologist was a fun perk that he wanted to exploit. Remember, that for a good portion of their early relationship she was compelled and I think he started to soften towards her during this time and it just stayed. Elijah....that part with Tyler and the hybrids seemed OoC, only because in my mind he would try to bring them together for the sake of the child. Even if they didn't want anything to do with each other, I felt like Elijah's dream was to have them co-parent the child and be happy. The fact that he didn't allow this to happen and helped fuel Hayley's dislike of Klaus was all the more reason why this seemed odd. It went against the reason of why he fell in love with her.

The fact that he didn't allow this to happen and helped fuel Hayley's dislike of Klaus was all the more reason why this seemed odd. It went against the reason of why he fell in love with her. He was lonely. BUt whose fault was it? His own which is what his character is. The point is he went out of way to be nice to Cami was not what his character was. At least with Caroline, like I said earlier, he showed his displeasure which is his character (anyone upsets him, he retaliates) but never with Cami. That is right. So Klamille is based on not Cami's true feelings lol... She saw Klaus as this nice guy while she was compelled and when that was removed, it stayed and then she tried to mold him in her image but that failed and she realized that later that what she was doing was wrong. He was fascinated by her mind. That he said IIRC in the beginning episodes. A person who has met probably met Freud and top notch psychologist and other great minds was fascinated by a bartender who was studying to be a psychologist. Hard to believe but maybe he had not met another literate person for a while. I agree to everything. I think Elijah fell fro Hayley because of her beauty AND also because she was carrying the child for his brother which Elijah thought Klaus didnt deserve. He always and still wants to have a family with Hayley which he cannot (vampires cannot procreate). THis is his only chance to have a family. Of course he loves Hayley but I think if Hayley were not pregnant with Klaus child, Elijah wouldnt have fallen in love with her. There are so many things if they had done differently Haylijah would have been received more openly by the fans. Anyway I hope this season angst is believable which I am hoping since Hope is going to cause trouble in paradise lol.
