I have not seen 407 yet but on twitter there is a lot of noise mostly from Haylijah and Elijah fans about them re-writing Elijah. What is going on? Are they really doing that?
IIRC Elijah was ruthless in TVD, right? And we did learn from RED DOOR episode that Elijah has a dark past.
read this on wiki
"You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
elijah?

Elijah in the past was more about making people do the dirty work instead of getting his hands dirty. He was ruthless, yes, but could be reasoned/bargained with. That's not a thing anymore, apparently. He acts more like Klaus these days.

There is no reasoning anymore implying that there was once?

Elijah forced Damon and Stefan to kill Bonnie's mother, to keep Elena safe.
Elena was usually able to get Elijah to go along with her plans, they respected each other. People used to make deals with Elijah, he had the reputation of being the one you could deal with. That's not really the case any more.

Anyways so what do you think has changed? Does he not trust others to do his bidding but if he is compelling then he should trust? Does he want to feel good about himself as in that he is trying to save his daughter by doing the actual lifting? Is he losign control? Carina tweeted something really interesting.
Do you think that he is trying to control his dressing coz he cannot control his actions ? RED DOOR is getting closed permanently? OR It is simple as this which almost all of us have deduced.
I guess Elijah will get stock free at the end coz it was all in the name of familly so all is well in the world.

No, it was because Abby and Bonnie were going to work with Esther to destroy the Originals. By destroying the Bennett bloodline (leaving only Bonnie), Elijah killed that plan. Damon instead made Abby a vampire.
Ahh, I see Carina confirms what I'm saying. Elijah is acting like Klaus.

Elijah gets things done. Killing someone while at it was never his problem. His season 1 peace treaty rather was OOC. Plus what he did during the last episode might bring back a character I like. Only Katherine and Hayley softened him a bit.

Only Katherine and Hayley softened him a bit. THIS!!!! He was trying to be good for Hayley's sake. Elijah was a better diplomat than Klaus but he has always been ruthless and has hidden behind a mask. He has been concern about his image but he doesnt anymore coz he has a bigger mission in front of him. I would go as far as this that he is so confident that Hayley will always love him that he does not care how much evil he does. I have seen the episode and I dont think he was being OOC in this episode either. He will do anything for his family. I am sure he will kill Klaus if he has to. The only thing is who does he think is more important at this moment. Right now it is Hope and Hayley. So for them if he has to even kill Klaus he will do it. If he has to kill Hayley for Hope, right now he will do it. @aj I think Elijah compelling Damon and Stefan to do his dirty work in TVD was a plot device. They had to include the main characters somehow. But if we want to read into it then I would guess that image has always been important to Elijah so where it mattered he kept it. Season 4 Elijah is on a mission. He did try to get Vincent to sacrifice the girls but he didnt help him so he took the matters into his own hands. He does not trust anyone to do this bidding.
